The story — The original Long Beach Bar Light was built in 1870 on tall screw piles; its high-tide silhouette resembled a water bug, inspiring the local “Bug Light” nickname. Fire destroyed the light on July 4, 1963. In 1990, a near-replica built at Greenport Yacht and Shipbuilding was returned to the original foundation.
